Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse Review

This mouse has been out for about 8 years now and it still one of the most popular mice on the market.

The Logitech G600 is what is marketed as an MMO gaming mouse. It has 12 buttons on the left side for easily mapping 1-12 keys, as most games use. It has a tilt wheel, which means you can push it left or right as extra buttons and can also click per scroll. It also has two buttons under the scroll wheel, as well as a button on the ring finger rest. All in all, it has a total of 20 buttons.

Design and Comfortability

The 12 buttons on the side are rubber and are sectioned into what they call “buckets” for easily finding the right button. There are two buckets, one for the first set of six buttons and another for the second set. The buttons contour to the shape of a bucket so that you know you’re touching the top or bottom row of each bucket. This was a great design. It’s not hard trying to figure out if I’m pressing the right button without looking in the heat of the moment.

The body is made out of plastic essentially and is contoured for an easy and comfortable grip. It’s also not hard for your thumb to reach all of the 12 buttons. However, if you have a big hand, you may find that you have to adjust your mouse grip slightly further down than usual. This will initially lead to a looser grip and cause fumbling, but after a couple of days, you start to gain muscle memory.

The two buttons below the tilt wheel are kind of hard to reach. I’m not sure why companies keep putting buttons there as most of the time I end up accidentally hitting it while trying to scroll. The only use I get out of these buttons is for DPI and Profile switching. Otherwise, they’re just too hard to reach in the heat of the moment.

The cord is your average mouse cord length and braided as well. The braided design helps for dealing with crimps in the wire as it will protect the wire from being exposed.

Logitech G-Hub

The software that works with the mouse is called G-Hub, which I believe the “G” stands for “Gear”. It has a pretty sleek UI and is fairly straightforward.

The G-Hub covers these aspects:

  • Profile creation and per-game profiles
  • Settings for the light effects with “LightSync”
  • A section for button binding
  • A section for DPI

Out of the box, the mouse supports 3 onboard profiles, but you can set up an account with Logitech and store as many as you want in the cloud. With the flexibility of the profiles where you can even create LUA scripts per button, it’s worth making an account. On top of that flexibility, they also have several plugins that work with third-party applications such as Discord, OBS, and Overwolf. Making it easy to bind a button to mute yourself in Discord or start streaming in OBS.

Final Thoughts

The only downside to this mouse is the maximum DPI you can set. It only has a maximum of 8200. Most gaming mice these days go well above 12000 DPI. I’m not sure why Logitech hasn’t updated this mouse over the years to accommodate a larger DPI. However, this isn’t a deal-breaker since it does allow for switching DPI on-the-fly.

Look, this mouse has been out about 8 years now and it still sells to this day. The design is great and I haven’t seen another company come out with a better MMO mouse experience. Due to its age, you can pick up this mouse for around $28, making it an easy decision for those that play MMO’s.

Don’t let the fact that it’s a gaming mouse deter you from using it for doing all kinds of cool things on your computer. You could easily have it bind to actions such as opening an app or maximizing a window. The possibilities are practically boundless when coupled with LUA scripts.
